REVIEW ON THE PROGRESS OF ISLAND CULTURE AND PROSPECT

Abstract  Island regional culture is a form of regional culture different from mainland regional culture. The research on island culture started from 1970s', it has also been gradually paid great attention in the recent more than ten years in China. Based on the analysis and arrangement to the overall documentaries related to island culture research at home and abroad, this paper attempts to give a systematic summary to the island culture research developments at home and abroad, and explore the similarities and differences of research perspectives, research contents and research methods, arming to be of great help for the cultural geographical research at home. Furthermore, the research outputs that the foreign scholars have made are mostly based on the autoptical basis. The emphasis on the technologic methods such as a large amount of case analyses through the field investigation, sample selections, deeply interviews, data disposals and so on, therefore, strengthen the positivism of the researches. There are more researches about the origin, transmission, amalgamation and cultural elements of island culture. Theses researches cover wide methods and theories of the disciplines, which are helpful for the comprehensive disciplines to grope the relation of the island culture elements. Take it all in all, through a summary of the origin and the development and the laws of the island culture, the construction of the island cultural geography framework and the exploration to the island cultural models and types both can provide useful complementary and cite as evidence for the geography research on the mainland regional culture, and can promote the development of cultural geography, as well as being beneficial to the comparatively weak research on the island geography.
