ON TOURISM DISCIPLINE DEVELOPMENT FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF TOURISM RESEARCH LITERATURE |

Abstract The paper researched tourism discipline and tourism journal with China Social Science Cited Index (CSSCI), which is the first great search and evaluation tool of Chinese human & culture social science research fruitment, and make the following conclusions:
Firstly, tourism discipline is comprehensive cross-subject one which has developed very actively.
Secondly, the five category disciplines, such as, Human Geography/Economic Geography, Economics, Ethnology, Management and Environment Science are the five main carriers of tourism research literature. For example, in additional to the synthesis social science journals and the high school synthesis social science transactions, the five category disciplines published 89.65% of tourism articles.
Thirdly, In China, the journals that published over 100 pieces tourism articles included Tourism Tribune, Economic Geography and Tourism Science.
Fourthly, tourism research has become academic hotspot, the impact force of tourism articles has been getting stronger and stronger, and tourism discipline is a really hotspot discipline, emerging discipline, and rising-sun-like discipline.
This paper reviewed the annual distribution of the number of Chinese tourism articles, the discipline category distribution of the number of Chinese tourism articles, the journal distribution of the number of Chinese tourism articles, the discipline category distribution of the number of Chinese tourism articles with CSSCI Source Literatures Database; Moreover, the paper reviewed the annual distributing of the total cited frequency of Chinese tourism citations, the annual distributing of the cited frequency of mean Chinese tourism article with CSSCI Citation Literature Database.
In order to offer help for school education, human resource training and discipline construction, and to offer reasonable decision-making reference for the development-planning and policy-making of science research, this paper reviewed the research status and development trends of tourism discipline from the two aspects of original literatures and cited literatures through the statistic and analysis of the tourism research articles in Chinese Social Science Citation Index (CSSCI) during from 1998 to 2005.
