Abstract Contemporary Shaanxi local literature plays an important role in Chinese literature. It's evolution attracts academic attention. From the geographical perspective, this paper attempts to find the great imbalance in time and space in the development of Shaanxi literature on the basis of statistical analysis. Specifically, the development can be divided into two phases:before and after the Great Cultural Revolution. In the first phase, the developed literature area was in central Shaanxi where writers inhabited densely and most creation covered. In the second phase, writers across Shaanxi Province increased rapidly. The themes, writing styles, and writing techniques diversified. The creation coverage expanded from central Shannxi area to the whole province, which indicated the expansion and prosperity of the developed literary areas. The literature developed in both centralized and equilibrated ways. Besides the strong influence of cultural center, the settlement of well-educated immigrants and the characteristics of distribution were also significant factors contributed to the development and distribution of literature.
