Abstract With the accelerated process of urbanization and the development of tourism industry, leisure agriculture has become an increasingly popular element in tourism. The introduction of bionics to leisure agriculture facility design not only integrates the scattered rural agricultural resources and promotes eco-design and multi-function of leisure agriculture, but also enriches recreational opportunities via more interesting facilities designed, leading to the sustainable operation due to the improvement of aesthetic enjoyment and ecological ideas of visitors. However, there are only a few bionic design cases in practice of leisure agriculture facility design and few resources of bionic design in the field in China. Actually, the concept of bionics can fully be applied to all leisure agriculture facility design environment. The paper describes the concepts of bionics, leisure agriculture and the relationship between them, and then introduces the essence of the leisure agriculture facility design. The author holds that leisure agriculture could be improved from the form, structure, and function on the basis of bionic design, so as to satisfy tourists' material and spiritual demands to the greatest extent. So, in the paper three basic principles are put forward:1) retaining the natural and rural atmosphere of eco-environment as far as possible; 2) converting agricultural resources into leisure activities which visitors can take part in; and 3) adding bionic skills into leisure facility design, such as single facilitiy and diversified design in order to highlight the characteristics of theme. Meanwhile, the paper includes the application modes of bionics in leisure agriculture facility design tourism, shows a particular description about multi-facilities, the body and the individual facility, and gives a particular production about the description of requirement, the concept of bionics, design methods, the advantages and disadvantages as well, to direct the future research.
