RESEARCH ON THE TOURIST FOOD CONSUMPTION: A CASE STUDY OF CHENGDU |

Abstract As an essential activity for tourists in tourism destination, food consumption has a great impact on the economy of destination. At the same time, food consumption also constitutes an important part of the tourist experience in the tourism, it's an important way that the tourists interact with the local culture. But for a long time, the research on food consumption has been ignored in the discourse of tourism and hospitality literature. Based on this, this paper conducted an empirical study on the touristic food consumption with the combination of quantitative and qualitative methods, the quantitative method mainly refers to the questionnaire survey, through this way, the influencing factors of tourist food consumption are studied. While the qualitative method refers to the method of netnography, which is used to analysis of the tourist food experience. The results show that the factors of"cultural symbol", "obligatory needs", "interpersonal relationship" and "health concern" have an important influence on tourist food consumption,and these factors show some differences in the characteristics of tourists. The female tourists pay more attention to the cultural experience related to food consumption, emphasizing the novelty and uniqueness of food, while the male tourists are affected by the factors of "interpersonal relationship". Besides, the older people pay more attention to the health of the food when they choose to eat.
