Abstract In the background of new urbanization in China, the construction of child-friendly cities and communities can be regarded as one of the breakthrough in the development of community nowadays, providing new ideas for the transformation of unit community. Using the method of behavior note and questionnaire to collect with the data, the study analyses the spatial distribution of children's activities in the unit community of H University in Guangzhou by Arcgis. The paper aims to investigate what H University unit community, a special form of community in China, will influence on children's activities in this neighbourhood and summarize the interactive relationship between the unit community and children's activities by comparative research. The findings of the study are as follows. Children's activities are mainly concentrated in the public space of H university unit community, followed by the living area of staff. The university unit community has a positive impact on the scope, type, space, time, parents' escort opportunity, safety and quality of children's activities through the built environment and social environment of the community.
