THE DIALOGUE IN THEORIES, METHODOLOGIES AND PATHWAYS OF GENTRIFICATION IN CHINESE CONTEXT
HUANG Xing, SONG Wei-xuan, TAN Hua-yun, LIU Cheng, HE Shen-jing, TAO Wei, WANG Feng-long, GU Hao, XIAO Yang, LIU Chun-hui, YANG Qin-ran, ZHANG Yun-peng, ZHANG Qing-yuan
With the comprehensive implementation of urban renewal and rural revitalization nationwide, it is increasingly important to establish a theoretical analysis framework for gentrification in Chinese context. In this sense, this article takes the special issue "Gentrification and Social Space Reconstruction in Chinese context" to invite scholars who are interested in Chinese gentrification to conduct in-depth discussions on how to cross learn from each other in terms of conceptual cognition, theoretical system, local development, and practical application of gentrification in Chinese context. This article argues that the establishment of the Chinese gentrification theory requires grasping the essence of the concept of gentrification itself, but also breaking free from the constraints of the Western context. Moreover, it is called for that the popularization of Chinese gentrification needs to break away from the literal constraints of the entry itself, focus more attention on the spatial meaning represented and referred to behind the concept, in order to serve the needs of Chinese path to modernization construction.

RETHINKING GENTRIFICATION: ORIGINS, CONTROVERSIES AND THE CONSTRUCTION OF CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM
LIU Feng-bao, CAO Xiao-jin, GUO Yi-de, QIU Jun-li, CHEN Pei-pei
With the global geographical expansion of the phenomenon of gentrification, the generalization of the concept of gentrification and the controversial evolution of its connotation across diverse contexts have posed significant challenges to urban policies, necessitating systematic theoretical integration. Based on relevant theoretical discussions and empirical studies on gentrification both domestically and internationally, this study carefully traces the origins of gentrification research and the phenomena, and reveals the internal logic of its evolution from "classic gentrification" to diversified types through an analysis of formation mechanisms, complex effects, and derivation directions. Furthermore, it constructs a dynamic and open classification system for comparative research across six dimensions: geographic locations, renewal modes, spatial functions, key resources, driving actors, and gentrifier groups. This study shows that the controversies surrounding gentrification stem from heterogeneous regional development contexts; the proposed typological framework not only reveals the unique characteristics of the phenomena in different regions, but also emphasizes transcending localized narratives to uncover universal mechanisms.

A REVIEW OF EMPIRICAL RESEARCH ON GENTRIFICATION IN CHINA FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF TERRITORIAL TYPES: CHARACTERISTICS, EXPERIENCES AND PROSPECTS
ZHANG Qing-yuan
Gentrification has emerged as a significant theoretical and practical concern in global urban and rural development. In the context of China's urban renewal, urban sprawl, and rural revitalization, gentrification has become prevalent across various territorial types, leading to diverse social-spatial outcomes. Grounded in the theories of urban-rural spatial structure and uneven development, this paper develops an analytical framework for empirical research on gentrification within China. Through statistical analysis and geographic visualization techniques, this study systematically reviews existing empirical research on gentrification in China, revealing that metropolises serve as focal regions for gentrification studies. Increasing attention is being directed toward metropolitan fringes and hinterland areas. The majority of researchers adopt either a critical or relatively neutral stance regarding gentrification in China. Gentrification exhibits variations across different regional types. In inner cities, it primarily manifests through phenomena such as commercial gentrification and education-led gentrification. In urban fringe areas, gentrification often takes the form of new-build gentrification and green gentrification. Rural gentrification and tourism gentrification are observed in hinterland rural areas. The experiences of gentrification across various regions are linked to the occurrence pathways and internal logics, reflecting profound transformations in China's complex rural-urban relationship. Future research should delve deeper into population flows during gentrification processes, the comprehensive evolutionary history of gentrified communities, and the institutional characteristics underlying gentrification.

REFLECTIONS AND EMPIRICAL ANALYSIS OF RENT GAP THEORY: A CASE STUDY OF NANJING
LIU Cheng, SHI Yi, ZHANG Kai-tao, LEI Chao
China has recently moved away from the gentrification model characterized by large-scale demolitions and displacements. Instead, the government adopted a more cautious approach in the allocation of rent gaps, emphasizing social equity and transparency. This study examines two government-led gentrification models in Nanjing: micro-regeneration and edu-apartment reform. The former focuses on revitalization and preservation of old neighborhoods, while the latter uses administrative measures to curb jiaoyufication driven by speculative investments in edu-apartment. Both aim to limit excessive rent gap appropriation by developers and homeowners. Micro-regeneration has enhanced the living conditions of original residents, maintained the community's social structure and neighborhood relationships, and effectively mitigated the drawbacks commonly associated with traditional gentrification. However, micro-regeneration requires substantial funding to create use value and preserve historic buildings; however, its internal revenue-generating capacity is far from sufficient to achieve financial sustainability. While government intervention has promoted social equity to some extent, it has struggled to fundamentally halt capital's pursuit of rent gaps in the short term.

IDENTIFICATION, SPATIAL EFFECTS AND FORMATION MECHANISMS OF GREEN GENTRIFICATION IN XI'AN, CHINA
HUANG Xiao-jun, WANG Yi-cheng, LIN Wen-bo, YAN Xi, MA Meng-ting
Green gentrification is a gentrification phenomenon due to green infrastructure construction, which has become one of the hotspots in the field of gentrification. Taking Xi'an City as a case area, the identification, spatial effect and formation mechanism of green gentrification was carried out based on multi-source data include remote sensing images, population census, housing price, and in-depth interviews. The results show that 1) Based on the younger population, higher education and significant growth of housing prices in the surrounding communities caused by the construction or renovation of the park, four green gentrification parks in the main urban area of Xi'an were identified, three of which were in the Qujiang New District. 2) The spatial effects of green gentrification include the improvement of the human settlement environment, the increase of housing prices, the break and continuation of the indigenous social network, and the social space differentiation and isolation between gentrification groups and indigenous peoples. 3) Through the construction of green built environment, local governments have realized the expansion of green rent gap and become the leading force of green gentrification. While the production of urban green space has also shaped landscape symbols highlighting identity and social status, which just meet the symbol consumption needs of gentrification groups.

THE DYNAMICS OF GENTRIFICATION IN THE INDUSTRIAL CITY AMID HERITAGIZATION: A CASE STUDY OF CHINA'S PORCELAIN CAPITAL JINGDEZHEN
XU Ya-wen
Since the 1990s, industrial heritage has garnered significant attention for its pivotal role in contemporary urban transformation, making it a critical focus in research on the interaction between heritage management and urban development. This paper delves into the dynamics of gentrification in China's Porcelain Capital—Jingdezhen—since the late 20th century, with a particular focus on industrial porcelain heritage and the intricate relationship between heritagization and gentrification. Applying the analytical framework of heritagization that manifests in three concepts—authorized narrative, post-landscape, and performance—this study draws upon primary data from field trips between September 2018 and January 2024, as well as secondary data from 108 research papers on Jingdezhen's industrial porcelain heritage. Employing constructivist grounded theory and a three-step coding strategy, the study identifies three waves of gentrification linked to porcelain heritagization. The findings reveal that the involvement of the creative class and diverse sources of capital has redefined the value and use of urban space in Jingdezhen. The redevelopment tends to prioritize gentrifiers' interests, neglecting the livelihood concerns of marginalized groups and traditional industries. This has resulted in cultural displacement and fragmentation of local identity. This study concludes that the interaction between heritagization and gentrification is not merely a physical redevelopment but also an ideological reconstruction, where the past is redefined to create new cultural representations.

THE PROCESS AND MECHANISM OF COMMERCIAL GENTRIFICATION AT NEIGHBORHOOD SCALE: TAKING GUILIN ROAD IN CHANGCHUN AS AN EXAMPLE
ZHANG Jing, CHU Ya-hui, MA Zuo-peng, LIU Wei
Taking Guilin Road in Changchun City as an example, this paper uses qualitative research methods to explore the phased characteristics and mechanisms of neighborhood-scale commercial gentrification from 2000 to 2023. The study found that the commercial gentrification in Guilin Road has gone through four stages: 1) From 2000 to 2005 marks the nascent stage of commercial gentrification. A little number of subcultural consumption formats emerged on the periphery of the block; 2) From 2006 to 2011 marks the stage of youthification, during which youth cultural consumption facilities gathered within the block, and youth cultural activities are diverse and vibrant; 3) From 2012 to 2017 marks the stage of gentrification. The rapid emergence of new business formats drove a comprehensive upgrade in function and landscape of the block, thereby replaced traditional ones; 4) From 2018 to 2023 marks the popularization stage. The popularity of Guilin Road on online media was increased, and the number of tourist-oriented mass consumption facilities, especially catering formats, were increased significantly. The study uses a gentrification framework to explain how urban commercial streets evolve, highlighting the mechanisms of multi-agent and spatial interaction evolution. This provides valuable insights for revitalizing commercial streets.

HEALTH EFFECTS OF ENVIRONMENTAL EXPOSURE FROM A FEMINIST GEOGRAPHIC PERSPECTIVE: FRONTIERS, FRAMEWORK AND PROSPECTS
WANG Lin-ting, YUAN Yuan
The health effects of environmental exposure and related social inequalities have received increasing attention. Feminist geography offers a theoretical lens that moves beyond traditional spatial analysis to highlight group identities and socio-environmental disparities. Drawing on this perspective, this study employs bibliometric tools to map two decades of research. Grounded in the interaction between gendered bodies and environments, it identifies multi-level health mechanisms and proposes a feminist-informed theoretical framework. The field has shifted from broad discussions of space, body, and gender to intersectional inequalities in specific contexts, especially among marginalized groups. Health is now seen as a multidimensional construct encompassing perception and lived experience. Three major research clusters have emerged, focusing on neighborhood, mobile, and perceived environmental exposures. Gendered differences intersect with intra-group disparities to shape unequal health outcomes. Future research should develop contextspecific health interventions to foster inclusive urban well-being.

PROVINCIAL DIFFERENCES AND DETERMINANTS OF PUBLIC ATTITUDES TOWARD ADDITIONAL BIRTHS IN CHINA: EVIDENCE FROM THE CGSS 2021 RANDOMIZED SCENARIO EXPERIMENT
FENG Zhi-xin, WANG Bin, LIN Lin
This study utilizes data from the 2021 China General Social Survey (CGSS), conducted by the China Survey and Data Center at Renmin University. The survey used a randomized scenario experiment to capture respondents' attitudes toward having a second or third child under different conditions: annual family income availability of family care, access to childcare services, and the gender of the existing child. Through the application of Multilevel Logit models, this analysis examines the factors influencing public attitudes and provincial differences regarding additional births. The results show that: 1) After the implementation of the three-child policy, the spatial pattern of the public's attitude towards additional births has changed. 2) Attitudes toward additional births have changed significantly, with a positive correlation between support for having a second child and a third child. 3) The combined care model of "one old and one young" needs to be developed.

ARRHYTHMIA AND EURHYTHMIA: YOUTH HIKING AND THE BODY FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF RHYTHM ANALYSIS
LIANG He-yang, XU Wei
Hiking is a popular outdoor activity in urban settings. Previous studies have primarily focused on the mobility paradigm and ritual paradigm, emphasizing spatial transformation and functional analysis, but they lack attention to and analysis of bodily sensations and embodied practices during hiking. This paper adopts Lefebvre's perspective of Rhythmanalysis, focuses on the changes in the perception of bodily rhythms within specific spatiotemporal contexts, and uses time, space, and the body as analytical dimensions. Based on an analysis of the hiking experiences of 25 urban youths, the findings reveal that: 1) The alienation of urban time and space generates imbalanced and chaotic rhythms, manifesting as disrupted and disordered perceptions of time, a lack of urban place identity, and physical and mental fatigue. 2) Hiking is a way to alleviate imbalanced rhythms. During hiking, through perceptual, social, and physical practices, multiple senses are activated, physical and mental vitality is restored, interpersonal relationships are established and strengthened, and imbalanced rhythms are adjusted and restored. 3) The analysis of hiking experiences suggests that the body is not only an indicator of rhythm, presenting multiple rhythms both within and outside itself, but can also act as a regulator, facilitating their restoration and adjustment. The multidimensional aspects of the body in rhythm analysis also provide insights for reflecting on urban life and city planning, urban planners should prioritize the design and development of slow-paced spaces.

EVOLUTIONARY ANALYSIS OF THE CHARACTERISTICS AND IMPACTING FACTORS OF FLOATING POPULATION’S LONG-TERM RESIDENCE INTENTION: BASED ON EDUCATIONAL DIFFERENTIATION
FENG Jian-xi, ZHAO Xuan, TANG Shuang-shuang, LUO Xiao-long
In the context of a shifting focus from 'talent' to 'population' in the battle for talents, there is an urgent need to increase attention to the long-term residence intention of low-educated floating populations in cities. Based on data from the China Migrants Dynamic Survey (CMDS) in 2014 and 2018, and using junior college education as a dividing line, this paper explores the differences in characteristics and influencing factors of long-term residence intention among floating population of different educational backgrounds, and how these differences evolve over time. The findings are as follows: 1) Over time, the long-term residence intention among these two groups has significantly increased in the western and central regions. 2) In terms of influencing factors, economic characteristics exert a greater influence on the long-term residence decisions of the less educated migrants, while family characteristics have a stronger impact on those with higher education. Over the years, the economic factors' influence on both groups diminisher, whereas the significance of family characteristics grows. 3) At the city level, large cities outside of urban agglomerations hold the greatest appeal for long-term residency among both highly and less educated individuals. High-educated people weigh factors such as industry and natural environment more heavily than those with low educational attainment when making long-term residence decisions. However, the considerations of these two groups tend to converge as time goes on. The comparative study enriches the analysis of group heterogeneity in the field of migrants, and complements the insufficient research on migrants with lower educational levels.

SPATIAL STRUCTURE AND INFLUENCING FACTORS OF THE MOBILE NETWORK OF CREATIVE TALENTS IN CHINA'S MUSIC INDUSTRY
ZHANG Xu, LIANG Hao, CHU Xiang-jun, HE Jin-liao
In the era of globalization and the knowledge economy, talent has increasingly become a strategic resource driving local industrial upgrading and economic growth. Current research on talent mobility has predominantly focused on high-level talents as a collective group or on professional talents within innovative fields, leaving the spatial patterns and mechanisms underlying the mobility of creative talents underexplored. This study investigates the spatial structure and diverse patterns of the mobile network of musical talents in China, utilizing geographical data from 3148 Chinese musicians. Furthermore, it employs Ridge Regression Analysis to identify the key factors that influencing cities' attractiveness to musical talents. The findings reveal the following: 1) Musical talents generally exhibit a high degree of inter-city mobility. The overall mobile network displays a spatial structure characterized by Beijing as the central hub and several economically developed cities as multiple cores. 2) While the mobility networks of musicians across different music genres show certain similarities, particularly in their convergence toward economically developed cultural centers, notable inter-genre disparities exist. 3) Industrial agglomeration is the most critical factor enhancing cities' attractiveness to musical talents, followed by the developmental level and structure of urban economies. Professional music education institutions play a more prominent role in shaping musician flow during the learning stage, whereas the foundation of urban cultural industries and market dynamics exert stronger pull during the working stage.

HOW TO PROMOTE NEW URBANIZATION CONSTRUCTION THROUGH BASIC PUBLIC SERVICES IN RESOURCE-BASED CITIES
MA Hui-qiang, CHAI Hui-dong, ZHANG Li, WANG Qing, LI Qing-bo
Taking 115 resource-based cities in China as examples and based on the ERG theory, from the perspective of human needs, this paper first uses the entropy method to measure the supply level of basic public services and the construction level of new urbanization in 115 resource-based cities in China. Then, it applies the configuration analysis method to explore how resource-based cities can promote new urbanization construction by optimizing the supply of basic public services. Finally, according to the urban industrial structure, resource-based cities are subdivided into different categories, configuration analyses are carried out respectively, and policy recommendations are put forward. The results show that: 1) Basic education, culture and sports, medical and health care, labor security, infrastructure and ecological environment are not necessary conditions for the new urbanization construction of resource-based cities. 2) The coordinated cooperation between basic education and labor security plays a crucial role in promoting the new urbanization construction of resource-based cities. 3) In the configuration pattern analysis, the patterns of basic public services in resource-based cities promoting new urbanization construction can be divided into growth-driven type, survival-driven type, relationship-driven type and mixed-driven type. 4) The growth-driven model is applicable to typical and transforming resource-based cities.

RESEARCH ON THE IMPACT OF THE UNITED STATES' INDO-PACIFIC STRATEGY ON BANGLADESH'S GEOPOLITICAL IMAGINATION FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF KEY GEOPOLITICAL ENTITIES
ZHANG Liang-bing, LUO Hua-song, HONG Ju-hua, LU Hao-jian, ZHOU Mei-qi
In recent years, with the continuous advancement of the U.S. "Indo-Pacific Strategy," Bangladesh's geopolitical value has become increasingly prominent within the framework of this strategy. Drawing on the concept of geopolitical imagination and machine learning analysis methods, this paper interprets the geopolitical imagination of Bangladesh regarding the U.S. "Indo-Pacific Strategy" from 2018 to 2023, through the examination of text from mainstream news media outlets in China, the United States, India, and Bangladesh, focusing on cognition, motivation, and emotion from key geopolitical entities. The research finds that in Bangladesh's geopolitical imagination of the U.S. "Indo-Pacific Strategy":1) There are two deviations in spatial relevance: first, there is a deviation in the spatial correlation between United States and Bangladesh; second, there is a deviation in the spatial correlation density.2) There is a decline in the sentiments of key geopolitical entities.3) Bangladesh exhibits two cognitive biases: Firstly, a geopolitical cognitive bias towards the U.S. "Indo-Pacific Strategy"; secondly, cognitive biases about geographical identity.4) Bangladesh lacks two types of attitudes: Firstly, a lack of clear attitudes towards neighboring countries in South Asia and Southeast Asia; secondly, a lack of expression of proactive attitudes.

IDENTIFICATION AND GENERATION PATH OF ATTRACTIVE ELEMENTS OF RURAL TOURISM DESTINATION UNDER THE PERSPECTIVE OF THERAPEUTIC LANDSCAPE
LI Hang, CHEN Si-yue, HUANG Geng-zhi, ZHANG Hong-ou, WEI Su-qiong
In the context of the deep integration of tourism and health, it is of great significance to re-examine the elemental attributes of the attractiveness of rural tourism destinations and the path of generating them, so as to achieve the sustainable development of rural tourism and rural revitalization. This study develops an analytical framework to explore the pathways through which rural tourism destinations generate attraction, based on the theory of therapeutic landscapes in health geography. The results reveal that: 1) From a therapeutic landscape perspective, the attractiveness of rural tourism destinations is comprised of five main categories. 2) No single variable alone is a necessary condition for the attractiveness of rural tourism destinations, although ecological therapeutic landscapes play a more prominent role. 3) The combination of these elements forms three distinct pathways to rural tourism destination attractiveness: the nature-nostalgia attraction type dominated by modern therapeutic landscape, the local culture attraction type dominated by natural and symbolic therapeutic landscape, and the cultural and entertainment synergy attraction type dominated by natural and symbolic therapeutic landscape.

HOW CAN RED CULTURE EMPOWER TOURIST ATTRACTIONS: THE MEDIATING ROLE OF CULTURAL PRIDE
XU Chun-xiao, TANG Li-sha, YUAN Yu-bin
The mechanism of red culture empowering the development of tourist attractions is a subject of obvious theoretical significance and outstanding practical value. The role of red culture in the brand of tourist attractions has received more attention from academics, but the impact of the red cultural load on the brand status of tourist attractions has not yet been studied, in which the role of cultural empowerment mechanisms and paths are not yet clear. Therefore, based on SOR theory, constructed a new framework containing the interpretation of the hierarchical relationship between red cultural load, cultural pride, and brand status of tourist attractions, this paper explores the awakening of red culture to cultural pride and the mechanism of enabling the brand status of tourist attractions. Through three experiments, this paper finds that: 1)Compared with the low red cultural load of tourist attractions, the high red cultural load of tourist attractions has a more obvious effect on the awakening of cultural pride, and is more capable of enhancing tourists' evaluation of the brand status of tourist attractions.2)Cultural pride plays a mediating role in the relationship between the red cultural load and the brand status of tourist attractions.3)Self-destination connection plays a regulating role in the red cultural payload and cultural pride of tourist attractions. When the self destination connection is high, the cultural pride aroused by the high red cultural load is significantly higher than the low red cultural load; when the self destination connection is low, the difference of the red cultural load in the tourist attractions cannot cause a significant difference in cultural pride. 4)Cultural participation plays a regulatory role in the relationship between the red cultural payload and cultural pride in tourist attractions.
