Abstract:Human Geography is the only learned periodical which studies the science of human geography in China. It has greatly improved the development of the science of human geography and has made great contributions to the talent' cultivation and the construction of the research communities in China. Human Geography can be regarded as the product of the renaissance of human geography in China, which has witnessed the revival and development of human geography in China. It serves as a professional platform for the human geograph scholars and researchers to publish their articles, and has made great influence to the renewal and development of the theories in human geography in China. Up until April, 2008, Human Geography has published one hundred editions. At the time of the pubilication of Human Geography's 100th edition, the present paper gives a statistical analysis of the 2102 articles which have been published in Human Geography in twenty-two years' publications. By analyzing the relevant information of the articles' first authors and the refrences quoted, the present paper aims to reveal the characteristics of the space time distribution of the number of the published articles, to show the basic features of the author group of Human Geography, to recognize the number and percentage of the active author groups of Human Geography, and to conclude the basic characteristics and rules in using literatures by researchers and scholars in the field of human geography.
In the perspective of articles' statistical analysis, the present paper mainly studied five aspects: changes in the number of articles published, changes in the number of translated articles published and the sources of the translated articles published, topic distribution of the articles published, sources of funds of the articles published, and the time lag analysis in the publishing of the articles. In the analysis of articles' authors, this paper mainly studied author-related information in six aspects: the regional distribution of authors, the institute distribution of authors, the age group of authors, the sex difference of authors, the technical grades and education level of authors, and the number of articles and cooperation types of authors. In the statistical analysis of the references, this paper focused on the reference grouping frequencies and the language types of the references. Meanwhile, it also gives a general review of the developmental process of human geography in China in order to provide some insights to the understanding of the changes and developmental status of the research communities in the field of human geography in China, and tries to provide some inspiration to the project of future development of human geography and the construction of its research groups.
