Abstract:Urban recreational space is an important part of a city. Its development does not only reflect urban society, economy and culture, but also will influence the evolution of urban space. Along with the development of society and economy, enhancement of urbanization, increase of leisure time, and strengthening of consciousness on people's living quality, research and construction of urban recreational spaces become more urgent. So, how do we know and understand recreational space? How do we reasonably plan and construct recreational space? This is not only the demand of academic development, but also the demand of the society development. Taking Chongqing metropolis as an example, the authors subdivide the 5 types of urban image factors which K Lynch put forward, and convert them into place image factors-single recreational space. According to the impression degree, better quality and worse quality of the urban recreational spaces, the paper makes a quantitative analysis and evaluation of them by the method of combining questionnaire together with interviews, and using basic theories of statistics and the SPSS software. Based on the survey results, the authors devise a four-quadrant distribution diagram of urban recreational space evaluation index, using the image index as the vertical axle and quality index as the horizontal axle. By analyzing the position of each urban recreational space in this diagram, the authors have revealed the relationship between quality sorting and perception of tourists about the recreational spaces, thus offering some help to the planning, design and construction of urban recreational spaces in Chongqing metropolis. According to the expert's inquisition, this paper reclassifies the urban recreational space into six types:pedestrian street square, the cultural inheritance and historic monument, public green space and scenic spot, landmark building, road, and 60 important urban recreation spaces. It is hoped that this research can be helpful to urban recreational space planning & design and construction in Chongqing metropolis.
