Abstract:This paper makes a theoretical and practical analysis of the development of the applied studies in population geography. It gives a review of the different development processes in China and Western countries. Although the study of population geography in China has begun with its application into practice, it is still not advanced in comparison with that in Western countries. At the turning from 1980s to 90s, the applied studies in population geography, as a drive for the subject development, tend to be promoted by quantification, socialization and midmicro-analyzation, which shows the realistic values of the theoretical subject. It is argued that population geography in China should aim at enlarging its application in practical issues, and in the meantime, improving its methods and precision.
