Abstract:The northeast China is a special place in the modern history of China, which had been under control of Russia and Japan for more than forty years. Russia and Japan used to build a good deal of facilities all over there to get more interests. Now a lot of colonial relics have been left because of Russia and Japan's imperialist aggression. There, however, has been no effective tourism development on these colonial relics, the symbols of China's disgrace history from certain degree. Moreover, Chinese people often have a mind to avoid talking over the colonial relics as tourism attractions. But Chinese people should be called attention to remembering that history forever and the lesson must be learnt from it. The paper, first, raised six reasons of the colonial relic tourism development in the Northeast of China:1) Colonial relics are important aggression testimony of Japanese militarism and other imperialist against China; 2) Colonial relics are important Memorial of the Anti-Japanese coalition martyrs and the martyrs of Chinese laborers during the war; 3) Colonial relics embody the authenticity and integrity of Chinese history; 4) Colonial relics tourism supports the red tourism strongly; 5) Colonial relics are vivid physical materials to carry out national patriotism education and national defense education; 6) Colonial relics tourism are effective form to inherit historical knowledge and be a warning to Chinese. Then, the paper discussed the potential, status and spatial distribution of colonial relic tourism development. In the third part of this paper, the author brought up three types of colonial relics tourism development model:1) National patriotism education tourism; 2) Combination between the development with television and literary works; 3) History theme tourism. Accordingly, the paper designed three main tourist routes:1) tourist routes of the Japanese army fort in China; 2) tourist routes to recall the sacrificial compatriots in mass graves; 3) tourist routes of colonial relics in the Northeast cities. The paper held that these colonial relics in Northeast China can and should be used to service for the social development and to recognize them as tourism resources, which should be developed for the tourism to gain the "positive results" from the "negative legacy".
