THE MECHANISMS AND NEW PRINCIPLES OF RAPID GROWTH OF CHINESE URBAN AGGLOMERATIONS: A CASE STUDY OF THE YANGTZE RIVER DELTA URBAN AGGLOMERATION

Abstract:Nowadays, urban agglomeration has become the main form of new urbanization in China. Analyzing its development status, growth mechanisms and existing problems will have great significance to the realization of urbanization in China. China now has Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Urban Agglomeration, Yangtze River Delta Urban Agglomeration, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Chengdu-Chongqing Urban Agglomeration, Triangle of Central China, Guanzhong plain city group and other important urban agglomerations, they play an important role in promoting the integrated development of major national and regional strategies. Among them, the Yangtze River Delta Urban Agglomeration is currently the largest urban agglomeration in China and the sixth largest urban agglomeration in the world, which plays a significant exemplary and leading role, and has a pivotal strategic position in the general situation of China's modernization construction and the new pattern of all-around opening-up. Firstly, this paper elaborated the general situation of the Yangtze River Delta Urban Agglomeration and its development status. Then, the growth mechanisms of the Yangtze River Delta Urban Agglomeration was summarized. Finally, the existing problems in the development of the Yangtze River Delta Urban Agglomeration were analyzed, and new development principles were proposed.
