Abstract：The formation and development of human settlements in the traditional ethnic cities in Northwest China is closely relative to its long history, special location, the geography, ethnic culture and the religions. Basing on the conception of environment, integrality, comprehensiveness and multi viewpoints, the paper apply the Analytic Hierarchy Process to study the spatial structure qualities of natural environment and cultural ecology environment of ancient cities under special natural and cultural backgrounds. It lays a foundation for the protection planning of famous historic and cultural cities.
