Abstract:The significance of protecting and developing Semi-Colonial landscape lies in its facilitation to exploring the changing and adjusting process of cultural colonialism, to protecting city cultural veins and to constituting harmonious urbane cultural landscapes under the present context of fast urbanization and cultural and historical protection. Taking Taiyanggou, Lvshun district, Dalian, as case study, this paper studies the cultural landscape changes in three different periods, the Colonial Period, the Red Army Period and the Modern Society Period, and concludes that, firstly, the discourse and the power are the major factors of the landscape representation, Japan and Russia colonists, the former Red Army and the Chinese Army, the Government, the Real Estate developers are the power subjects of the landscape representation in these periods, secondly, the stakeholders play an important role in shaping the landscape and the space, thirdly, a colonial city with a history of humiliation dose not certainly have a culture of humiliation. This paper puts forward three suggestions about protecting and developing the cultural landscape in Taiyanggou. Firstly, it is urgent to protect the cultural landscape in Taiyanggou; secondly, system innovation is the primary task in the protection; finally, cultural industry should be energetically developed in Taiyanggou.
By probing into the process of molding urbane cultural landscapes of the post-colonial period, the paper finds out that this molding focuses only on the construction of the cultural landscape itself while neglecting the cultural elements contained behind its construction, and even ignoring the participants and doers during the molding process. By this exploration, the paper tries to provide beneficial and constructive guidelines for city planners and decision-makers when they launch cultural colonialization and work out city planning in the context of globalization.
