INDUSTRIAL DIVISION AND TRANSFER OF MANUFACTURE IN BEIJING-TIANJIN-HEBEI REGION

Abstract：Based on the panel data of 182 districts and counties in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region from 2001 to 2009, this paper concentrates on basic features of industrial division and industrial transfer in the BeijingTianjin-Hebei region of different manufacturing industries and tries to explore their relationship using econometric methods. We firstly use Location Quotient and Industrial Similarity Structure Index to quantify industrial division, Then we use three regression models to explore how industrial division impact industrial transfer for the labor-intensive manufacturing industry, capital-intensive manufacturing industry and technique-intensive manufacturing industry respectively. We have three major findings. First of all, between 2001 and 2009, a differentiated industrial division pattern between Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei were setting up. Beijing was retreating from capital-intense industries while keeping part of technology-intense manufacturing industries. In Tianjin, both capital-intense and technology-intense manufacturing industries were progressing rapidly. Hebei was enhancing its industrial basin with labor-intense industry at the same time growing specific technology-intense manufacturing industries. Our second conclusion is that our paper lies in the moving of manufacturing core areas in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region from Beijing City and Tianjin City to coastal areas and broad Hebei hinterland. The last, under the influence of diffusion effect, a gradient characteristic of the division of manufacture in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region has gradually come into being, and the main direction is from high-level regions to low-level regions.
