Abstract:Western developed countries have come into postindustrial stage since 1970s.With the development of society and economy,the advancement of cultural quality,income and prolonged leisure time of urban residents,a large number of commercial entertainment places have sprung up in urban areas,which drew the attention of the academic field.However,neither domestic nor foreign geographers have paid much attention to the research in this regard.From the perspective of urban social geography and humanism,this paper that is based on a brief summary of the studies of the commercial entertainment places in urban areas in Western countries,tries to summarize the study genres and phases in urban commercial entertainment places.
This paper,according to the different study purposes,methods and contents of various subjects,classifies the social spatial study of commercial entertainment places into three genres:the genre of ecology,social living and that of regeneration.The whole study process has experienced five phases:the study phase of space distribution,space location,space utility,space structure and that of "the third way"-"new urbanism". Through synchronizing multidisciplinary study,this paper analyzes the study progresses of commercial entertainment places,explains the future trends and believes that how the entertainment places affect the sustainable city"will become the main issue studied by various subjects in future.So,the aim of this paper is to enrich the basic concepts of the urban planning.
