Abstract:With the development of internet technology, more and more people began to enjoy the virtual tour. What the tourists could get from the virtual tour and the way to get it depend on the functions of the virtual tour web sites, so it is necessary to conduct researches on the functions of the virtual tour web sites. This paper aims to conduct research on function evaluation of virtual tour websites in china. Based on related works of the virtual tour and evaluation index system for the web sites, the authors establish the evaluation system of the virtual tour web sites. Then, they make a content analysis of some samples of virtual tour web sites, which are typical and recommended by some famous search engine with a tremendous scale, including Baidu, Yahoo and Google. The authors conclude that firstly the interface function of the virtual tour web sites is incomplete, especially, the design of the users' interface. Some communication platforms among users or between users and the web sites are absent. The information is not updated with the new development, and function for searching information in some sample web sites is not convenient. Secondly, owing to the design concept and marketing positioning, the tourism products and services provided by the virtual tour web sites are inadequate and most of which have very low quality and development level, for example, most web sites exhibit their tourism products and services with three-dimensional scenery or two-dimensional pictures, and even only with words, and the virtual reality technology (VRT) is seldom applied to help the customers to get more valuable tourism experiences. Thirdly, some web sites had prominent characteristics compared with others, for instance, sample NO. 8 and NO. 14 have better condition on virtual tourism products and services, and sample NO. 6 is a good example for virtual reality technology's application in the tourism web sites. Finally, the authors summarize that currently the tour web sites' function is not powerful, and they should upgrade in interface function and tourism products and service.
