A STUDY ON THE HISTORY OF URBAN RENEWAL OF WESTERN COUNTRIES FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF URBAN GEOGRAPHY

Abstract:The history of urban renewal of west countries has been explored from the perspectives of architecture and urban planning.This paper makes an analysis from a different angle, urban geography, of the urban renewal history of west countries.The outcomes of this analysis are:the first period, the renewal of physical structure space of the city from the Industrial Revolution to the end of 19th Century;the second, during the period from the end of 19th Century to 1970's, the emphasis of urban renewal is on the rest ructuring of the system of "urban-region";and the third period, since 1970's, is the renewal of the "inner-city".Through the analysis from this perspective, we can apply them to the process of urban renewal in our country.
