Abstract:Border tourism is a tourism activity that is being carried out in special border area and cultural environment, and one of the important forms of international tourism. Based on the relevant statistical data of Chinese land border and neighboring provinces from 2000 to 2009 and the comparison of border tourism development and tourists evolution trend, this paper took an in-depth analysis on border inbound tourism and its influencing factors by using the five indicators of market share of inbound tourism, tourism resource abundance, tourism openness, cross-border trade proportion and distance. The results show that: tourism resource abundance, geographic conditions, economic development level, openness, accessibility and etc. are the main factors of influencing the size and type of border tourism. The border tourism development in China's border provinces and regions recently has been driven significantly by trade. Tourism resource abundance has great impact on inbound tourists, and border tourism also follows the attenuation.Border tourism in three typical border provinces and regions can be subdivided into trade-driven type, tourist-driven type and shopping and sightseeing type according to the driving factors. Tourism resource abundance has greater impact on inbound tourists of border tourism, especially in some of the traditional tourist destinations such as Xishuangbanna, but less impact on other areas.
