THE SPACE-TIME PATHS OF RESIDENTS' DAILY TRAVEL INGUANGZHOU FROM A PERSPECTIVE OF LIFE COURSE

Abstract：Although some researchers have recognized the importance of life course factors (ages, family structures, social roles, etc.,) in residents' daily activities, researches based on life course are still inadequate theoretically and empirically. Scholars tend to emphasize the rhythm of a day or a week, but studies in the longer time scales are relatively weak. As the field of space-time research has received wide attention in past decades, GIS has been largely adapted as a tool for analyzing time-space data. In this context time geography has been a significant perspective for analyzing human behavior and movement in time-space. This paper analyzes human behavior with time geography methods and GIS platform from the perspective of life course. Using three dimensional space-time paths on GIS platform, this paper makes up problems of the fragmentation of space and time in behavior study. This paper compensates for the split between different activities with complete chains of travel. At the same time this paper uses cross section data at different ages to study the life course regularity. The purpose of this article is to analysis the life course impact in residents' daily life. The dates come from a household survey on peoples' daily activities and travel logs in Guangzhou, China. The characteristics of residents' daily travel in different ages are showed. The research results show that the Guangzhou residents travel distance, travel time and start time these three aspects present the evident characteristics of life course. The travel distance and time show the characteristics of obvious "M" type curve along with the age changing.
