RESEARCH ON SPATIAL DIFFUSION OF AGRICULTURAL TECHNOLOGY——A Case Study of Diffusion of Fruit Cultivation Technique

Abstract:Efficiency of agricultural technology diffusion is a decisive factor for the development of rural economy. The authors hold that the research on technology diffusion at home and abroad is focus on temporal diffusion while lacking the intensive research on spatial diffusion. Choosing China Fruit Association as an example, the authors researched the diffusion of fruit cultivation technique and the spatial diffusion characteristics by using correlative analysis and behavior analysis methods from different spatial scales. The results show that:1) Influential factors of agricultural technology diffusion showed diversity from different spatial scales; 2) With the spatial scale reduction, hierarchical diffusion on macroscopic scale is gradually changed into contagious diffusion on microcosmic scale, due to different intermediate mediums which have different ability in overcoming distance; 3) The diffusion direction of agricultural technology always pursuits the regions in which new technology spreading can making the maximum benefit. The more benefit the region obtains from using the new agricultural technology, the quicker rate the new agricultural technology diffused; 4) Analysis on farmers behavior on microcosmic scale shows the influencing factors of farmers using new technology depend on both the max benefit farmers pursuit and the impact from external factors. These conclusions can provide theoretical basis and reference for constructing high level agriculture technology diffusion system under market mechanism, improving diffusion model of agriculture technology, accelerating agriculture technology diffusion rate.
