Abstract:Tourist Attraction System (TAS) is in chaos, and their evolving tendency is some kinds of strange attractors which behave in non-integer dimension and infinite nested self-similarity structure and is the optimal choose for applying the fractal methods to study structure of TAS. With the application of the method of measure and analyses of grid capacity dimension and grid information dimension, this paper divides TAS in Nanjing into the northern one and the southern one. The former system includes 104 representative attractions while the latter includes 142. By means of Mapinfo software with VB language, the paper, first, measures data of all tourist attractions in Nanjing's digital map. Based on the measure formula of grid capacity dimension and information dimension, the paper divides the distribution map of all attractions in different orientations with grid, and obtains the measure data of northern and southern systems, and then draws out the log-log plot for the grid dimension of tourist attractions in accordance with these basic data. The values of grid information dimension and capacity dimension are then calculated. The paper believes that the spatial structure of TAS in Nanjing is fractal, presenting the self-organizing optimization trend. With the obvious trend of self-organizing optimization, the whole system displays a compact space structure on spot spatial distribution. The southern system shows a best compact space structure on spot spatial distribution, with a perfect and thin fractal while that of northern system is relatively concentrated and fractal, having a self-organizing tendency toward optimization. During the evolution of TAS, the local is broadened or dwindled by the whole in different rate in different orientation, in the proper order form the center to circumference, furthermore, the fractal of the spatial structure of TAS is quasi-symmetry among the different hierarchy, and is approximately self-similar.
