Abstract:The tourist destination is a more and more crucial carrier for urban renewal currently and its visual landscape production becomes the result of the participation and games between stakeholders. In order to have a clear understanding of visual landscape, we divide visual landscape into three levels, namely architectural landscape (material), landscape of activity (behavioral) and media landscape (image). Taking Kuanzhai alleys, located in Chengdu city, as a case study and adopting semi-structure interviews and participant observations, we make a thorough probe into the construction process of visual landscape in which government, developer, businessmen, residents and medium try their best to participate under the circumstance of urban regeneration in transition period of China. Then this article concludes:①the government and developer, possessing the monopolistic resources-administrative powers and capitals, absolutely control the production of architecture landscape and mega-behavior landscape, and push media spectacle to come into being. ② businessmen and residents, lack of the property of buildings and are limited by some relevant legislations for protecting historical and cultural blocks, cannot interfere with the production of architecture landscape, but prefer to produce micro-level and informal performance landscape. ③ the medium, try to produce media spectacle actively as the advocates, and influence the other actors' production of visual landscape as supervisors.
