Abstract:Under the International strategic background of ‘the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road’, RMB became a member of ‘Special Drawing Rights currency basket’ that is benefit for China extremely. Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank will be operated before the end of this year. The Silk Road project investment fund also has been carried out. The interest community of ‘the Belt and Road’ is continuously growing bigger. The governments of member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization are also making great effort to promote their development strategies docked with the land and maritime Silk Road initiative, to further advance International cooperation and to swift score greater collaborative development.Establishing the city comprehensive competitiveness index system, and analyzing the connection between different cities in northwest China by adopting the improved gravity model, subordination degree model and potential model, our research concludes that:with the rapid development of the city groups in this area, the shortest distance time between cities has shorten a lot, and the accessibility also has improved much; decreasing from the east to the west which is effected obviously by the shortest distance time, the level of spatial connection among different cities is low; the cities in the city groups are insufficiently radiated by the core city; the potential value of urban agglomerations in five northwestern provinces emerges a dumbbellshaped state that the two ends are better than the middle, while the gathering ability of each city in the city groups is different noticeably.
