Abstract:The social network plays a crucial role for the daily activity and life quality of the elderly, through which they can gain various kinds of support such as money, emotion, friendship and so on to maintain their daily life. With the advent of Marketization and Globalization era, the collapse of Danwei institution which was formed in the Period of Planned Economy, China began to experience a transition period, during which the process of spatial and social mobility of Danwei residents was also being conducted. But the influence of housing mobility to the elderly has not received enough attention of the related scholars. This paper provides a case study of Mao-Fang-Bei, a staff-living community HaiDian District of the city of Beijing, which focuses on the elderly in Danwei who moved out of Mao-Fang-Bei compound, through qualitative research methods such as rooted observation, follow-up study, structured interview and detailed case analysis, compared their daily activities and social network of the aged in Danwei before and after their move, analyzed the process of adapting to the new situation, as well as the changes in daily life and their communication mode in face of the separation between their new living space and original social space after their move, selectively analyzed the interaction between the elderly and the original Danwei community. And then we concluded the impact mechanism on the elderly's social network, which could be summarized into three effects, the first effect for the elderly is relying on the original Danwei space, Danwei resources and Danwei social network, the substitution effect is that new residential area's social network and community activity subsitutes for the old one, the restriction effect is that the elderly need to overcome some difficulties if they want to maintain their original social network, which is mainly be seen as health constraints,temporal constraints and spatial constraints.
