Abstract:Leisure service facilities are important for the functions of a city. The rational distribution of leisure service facilities can provide comfortable and convenient living environment for local residents. However current researches on urban leisure service facility mostly concentrate on the function of urban leisure, the spatial system of leisure, leisure activities and comprehensive leisure area, and seldom researches have done on the location structure of leisure service facilities. This paper provides a case study of Guangzhou city, which is located in the south of China, aims to be an international metropolis with best living environment. The authors examine the location features of leisure service facilities of Guangzhou city with qualitative and quantitative methods. This research is based on the geographic range of 76 administrative commercial centers in central district of Guangzhou and the research areas are classified by the density of resident population. Also, three indexes are used in this research, which are gini coefficient, belt difference coefficient and belt specialization coefficient. Furthermore, the authors discuss the location types of the service facilities of leisure activities in central district of Guangzhou. The result shows that (1) the features of the leisure service facilities location in Guangzhou city can be described as four types which are proportional distributed area, less proportional distributed area, agglomerate area and partial agglomerate area. The service facilities of entertainment, culture and catering are proportional distributed and the service facilities of shopping, sports and well-being present a feature of agglomeration; (2) From the perspective of geographic structure of Guangzhou city, the leisure service facilities are distributed disproportionally because most of the leisure service facilities are located in the areas with high population density like the middle zone of the city, and the leisure service facilities is serious lack in the outer-city and most of the new city areas. Therefore, the authors points out that a further discussion is necessary to develop the leisure service facilities in the outer-city and new city areas, as well as make rational adjustments in the distribution of leisure service facilities.
