A STUDY ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN AGRICULTURE LAND INTENSIVE USE AND AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS CONSUMPTION MARKET ACCESSIBILITY——A Case Study of Xinghua in Jiangsu Province

Abstract:On the basis of previous researches on agriculture land intensive use and the evaluation methods of market accessibility, this paper examines the agriculture land intensive use level and the agricultural products consumption market accessibility of Xinghua County as well as their relationship. The method of mathematical statistics is adopted in this research. This research is based on Land Use Planning of Xinghua County (2006-2020) and supported by National Natural Science Foundation (40801222, 40601098). The result shows that (1) there are obvious spatial differences of agriculture land intensive use levels and agriculture consumption market accessibility ranks among towns in Xinghua County. The comprehensive evaluation value of agriculture land intensive use level of different towns varies from-1 to 2.4. (2) the rank correlation coefficient of the agriculture land intensive use level and agriculture products consumption market accessibility is 0.23. Therefore, it is clear that the Thunen Agriculture Location Theory of spatial distribution that "agriculture products consumption market Accessibility-Agricultural production activities-agricultural land intensive use level" is not adapted to the situation of a county scale. However, we could not deny the profound influence of agriculture products consumption market accessibility on the agricultural production activities. In a modern market economy, the improvement of the market system relies on the regional transport network. Agricultural production activities and consumption of agricultural products have been far exceeded the traditional spatial pattern described by Thunen Agriculture Location Theory as a single city market center model. At larger spatial scales, agriculture products consumption market accessibility would still have far-reaching influence on agricultural production activities by the agriculture products shipment cost.
