Abstract:This paper aims to examine the influencing factors of tourists flow with factor analysis, ANOVA and Pearson correlation analysis from the Push-pull theory perspective. The authors provide a case study of inbound tourists from the U.S.A. The results are as follows. First, the paper identified three push factors domains including keeping health, having social intercourse, seeking novelty, gaining knowledge, and employment. Novelty seeking and knowledge gaining are the most important cause for their travel (typical value=4.17), which indicts that the American inbound tourists wanted to seek novelty and know more about China. And two pull factor domains including outside attraction and inside attraction of scenic spots. The latter one is more important and it shows the high quality; second, the authors examine the push and pull factors which are influenced by the social-demographic variables. The finding reveals that the factors are different for different groups, and the managers of destinations should take corresponding measures for different groups to satisfy the tourists' needs and increasing revisiting rate; Third, the authors examine the interrelationships among the push and pull factors domains and find that pull and push are not isolated, the "outside attraction of scenic spots" of pull has positive correlation with "keeping health and having social intercourse" and "novelty seeking and knowledge gaining", and the weak correlations with "employment", the correlation also exists between "inside attraction of scenic spots" of pull and "novelty seeking and knowledge gaining" of push. The finding also shows that the factors such as gender, age, education background and income would have influence on the relations between pull and push directly. "Outside attraction of scenic spots" is related to "keeping health and having social intercourse", "seeking novelty and gaining knowledge" and "employment", and the other different groups are influenced by other factors.
