THE INTEGRATION OF VULNERABILITY AND RESILIENCE: RESEARCH RANSFORMATIONS AND CHALLENGES OF SUSTAINABILITY OF SOCIAL-ECOLOGICAL SYSTEMS

Abstract:From recognizing the vulnerable state and mechanism of the geographic environment to strengthening the resilience of the social-ecological systems in the context of global change, researches on sustainability of social-ecological systems has become the key issue to re-examine the human-environment system and to guarantee the high-quality development of the region in the new period. The research analyzed the research progress, transformation trends, and challenges in the mainstream field of social-ecological systems by combing domestic and international literatures, and proposed major issues and pathways for the transformation of social-ecological systems research. The research argued that the transformation of the integration of vulnerability and resilience is a continuous deepening and interactive integration of the research system, which further deepens the understanding of sustainability science in the mutual feedforward adaptive mechanisms of the society and the environment.
