Abstract:After entering the 21th century, Xi'an urban transportation is confronted with opportunity and challenge. Xi'an transportation system should satisfy the progressively transportation demands and be correspondent with the character of the city which is a modern out-oriented central city in the west. The city transportation has some problems at the present time. The whole transportation system is not in the best condition. The confliction between the infrastructure construction and the rising transportation demands will become sharper and sharper and the contradiction between the conservation of the historic city and the construction of the modern city will also become apparent. Under this situation, the paper proposes the following strategy policy. The master transportation plan of Xi'an city should be made as soon as possible to correspond the city transportation with the use of the urban land. The city road system should be constructed and definite standards for different road rank should be set. The superior policy for mass transit should be strengthened and the percentage of the bicycle should be gradually reduced. The number of the motorcycle must be controlled strictly and the motorcycle should be forbidden within the second-circle of the city. The development of the family car should take a moderate and rational step. Walk system should be constructed in the city and the government should pay more attention to the synthesis of the urban planning, city construction and government management.
