Abstract

Abstract From 1900s to 1970s, human geography of China entered the modern periods. The periods is a very important times in history of Chinese human geography development. And it can be dividen into three stages: (1) the embroynic stage(1900s 1920s), the great changes of Chinaese society and the impact of the West led to the geography become one of the main tools to know the world, and the national geography formed; (2)the building and developing stage(1920s 1940s), the establishing of geography department in chinese universities, the influence of the West human geography and the foundation of chinese geography institutes impelled the progress of chinese human geography both in theories and in branches; (3)the transition from the modern to the contemporary(1950s 1970s), for the influence of the former Soviet Union, human geography, except economic and historical geography, was regarded as psuedo science and suppressed. Till 1973, appealing for some famous human geographers. the Chinese human geography revived and developed rapidly.
