Abstract In this paper, three typical provincial areas of China have been selected as a case study, and we made some empirical analysis on effects of urbanization on tourism industry, which were divided into industrial effects of urbanization on domestic tourism, international tourism and the overall tourism development. Basic results show three aspects. 1)The development of domestic tourism and inbound tourism don't have the co-integration relationship with urbanization in Jiangsu Province, but overall tourism development have the long-run equilibrium co-integration relationship with urbanization. 2) The development of domestic tourism, inbound tourism and overall tourism have the long-run equilibrium co-integration relationship with urbanization in Henan Province. 3) The development of domestic tourism have the long-run equilibrium co-integration relationship with urbanization, but the development of inbound tourism and overall tourism don't have the long-run equilibrium co-integration relationship with urbanization in Shaanxi Province. In addition, Using panel data from 2005~2008 among three provinces, this paper investigates the econometric analysis about effects of urbanization on tourism industry through empirical study. The result shows that urbanization in three provinces has a significant positive effect on the development of domestic tourism, inbound tourism and overall tourism respectively. With the increasing integration between urban tourism and tourism urbanization, urbanization promotes the shift and concentration of tourism development elements. So we must have a rational view on the interaction between urbanization and tourism development. Base on this, the paper has analyzed the reasons for this phenomenon and puts forward several relevant suggestions.
