Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore the differences between people flow and capital flow by using mobile phone signaling data and firm interlocking data to measure urban relations between cities in the northern region of Jiangxi Province. Based on the mobile signaling data, it is possible to identify the mobile phone users' home residence and their travel destinations. Our main conclusions are as follows:firstly, people flow and capital flow is obviously different relational data in urban system. Secondly, urban population size has small influence both on people flow and capital flow, but the spatial decay of people flow significantly meets the power function law, which is consistent with traditional gravity model. Thirdly, in people flow perspectives, the urban interlock network shows a massive group structure, while in capital flow perspectives, the urban interlock network presents a relatively scattered band structure. Fourthly, the people flow is more similar to the hypothesis of central theory, the capital flow has not formed a completely urban network system. Finally, the empirical result shows that the central place system is still prevalent and the urban network system has not yet formed in the northern region of Jiangxi Province, but the strict urban hierarchy system has been disintegrated.
