Abstract High-speed rail (HSR) networks are reshaping the regional spatial pattern and causing profound effects on socio-economic development. The impact of HSR on socio-economic development and regional spatial structure has been the research focus of transportation geography and transportation economics on global level. This paper collects 347 papers from SCI and SSCI Journals from Web of Science, which are associated with socio-economic and spatial impacts of high-speed rail. A systematic study on the trends and features of the global research on HSR effects is made from several aspects:original country (region) of literatures, the annual number of publications, core authors and institutions, distribution of journals and research topics. Furthermore, this paper systematically reviews the obtained literatures from three aspects, including the spatial impacts of HSR, the economic effects of HSR and social impacts of HSR. Finally, this paper summarizes the main conclusions. The result shows that the global research on HSR effects continues the trend of rapidgrowth, which is related to the rapid development of HSR in the world at present. Scholars have produced plenteous literatures and conclusions on the research of spatial and socio-economic effects of HSR.The research on spatial effects mainly focuses on the impact of HSR on regional accessibility and spatial equity, as well as on urban networks. In the end, some implications are put forward for the future resebbarch on socioeconomic and spatial impact of HSR in China.
