Abstract  Starting from the core concept of "sense of place", this paper uses comprehensive research methods, such as questionnaire surveys, participatory observations and interviews, to systematically evaluate the characteristics of African migrants' urban perception of Guangzhou who are living and working in Guangzhou. Based on the five-dimensional sense of place evaluation system proposed by this study, the main conclusions of this article are as follows: 1) In the evaluation of the five dimensions of African migrants' sense of place in Guangzhou, this paper shows that there are positive as well as negative perceptual intensity among the five dimensions. Theoverall characteristics according to positive degree is presented as "place satisfaction > place dependence >place trust > place attachment > place identity"; 2) Each one of the five dimensions of sense of place presented by this paper has different effect towards African migrants' sense of place to Guangzhou. 3) The formation path of the negative sense of place of African migrants in Guangzhou is mainly formed through their exchange and interaction with Guangzhou on the spiritual and mental level. 4) Although there is a difference between a positive and a negative sense of place, the boundary between them is not very obvious, and there is relatively a strong rheological features among them.
