Abstract

The notations system of time-geography, especially path (or trajectory) put forward by Hägerstrand has been widely spread and applied in many research fields in geography and other social sciences due to its abstraction, simplification and intuition. Along with the advance of GIS and geo-visualization and mass production of high precision spatial-temporal data, the 3D visualization technology of individual space-time path in real geographical environment has also been in progress since 1990s. This paper, firstly defines and interprets the different dimensions of the complex context of human everyday activities, including "everyday context" used to emphasize the sequence of activity time, "project context" used to emphasize the internal connection of activities, "geographical context" used to emphasize the sequence of activity place, as well as "social context" used to emphasize the social connection of activities. After then, this paper briefly describes two visualization tools called "Daily life" and "VISUAL-TimePAcTS/energy use". Finally, this paper introduces the application of the visualization method with the case studies on the domestic division of labor and interaction between members in household level.
