Abstract As a new format of tourism, self-driving tourism is becoming the fresh troops of Chinese tourism industry and its development produces special demands on tourism resources. The author sums up the new features of self-driving travel and pointed out the deficiency of the existed evaluation methods. By analyzing comprehensively the tourism resources attraction, tourism resource environmental conditions, facilities conditions, tourism market and development potential, a new tourism resource evaluation index system for the self-driving tourism development was established. This paper used AHP method to determine the weights of each index factor based on the results derived from experts' consultation. The result shows that, in the element layer, the development potential of tourist market takes the maximum weight(0.3028), followed by the ecological and environmental conditions(0.2605), the attraction of tourism resources(0.2240), and fourth facilities status(0.2127). Among the index inside the attraction of tourism resources elements, the resource recreational value(0.04725) and the resource visibility and reputation value(0.03945) are of the highest weight; the scientific research and education value(0.01475) and the historical and cultural value(0.01455) weight in the bottom. The weight distribution of every index inside the ecological environment element layer is relatively uniform. The green coverage rate and biological diversity index(0.04975), and the air quality and environmental noise(0.0417) weight the highest. In the facilities element, safety facilities(0.04235) and traffic accessibility(0.0328) are ranking on the top. Taking Yichun for an example, the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method was used to assess the tourism resources in twenty two tourist areas in Yichun. The result shows that the new tourism resource evaluation index system in this study is applicable, popular and easy to distinguish.
