Abstract The development of world economy, on which the development model of China economy has great influence, faces a big challenge. It is no more important to speed up the development of service industry. Thus, it will greatly push the transformation from single manufacturing industry into the mix of manufacturing and service industry in China. Currently, strengthening the researches on the evolution of spatial distribution of service industry is significant for optimizing the quality of industrial development and the promotion of economic transformation. This paper provides a case study of the development of the service industry in Zhejiang Province. Through the analysis of relevant data, the paper presents the classification, the internal mechanisms of development and evolution of the service industry. Based on the analysis, this paper sums up the characteristics of evolution of spatial distribution of service industry in Zhejiang. The author points out that it has three spatial levels. At the first level, it focuses on the industry interaction between inside and outside of the region. A model of import, export and substitution in service industry is formed. At the second level, it has formed an inside industry evolvement in space diversity and mutual complementary between developed and less-developed areas. The measures are as follows: a generally higher level of service industry as the developed areas, a stronger impress on regional industry of central cities in developed areas, and the perfect complementary between developed and less-developed areas. At the third level, the author concentrates on the industry development between urban and rural areas, which indicates that there should be different service industry level between them. Finally, this paper put forward three suggestions to optimize space development in the service industry. Firstly, develop different areas diversely; secondly, plan the service industry in urban areas and production of rural areas as a whole; thirdly, optimize the development of different modern service industry. The author points out that these measures could reflect the features of the present regional service industry and be constructive to the development of service industry.
