Significant progress has been seen since last century in the western society. Hum an geography research has been shifted to some new fields, which emphasize more on behavior of individual and sub-groups in the society. This leads to the emergence of the post-modernism geography, which puts more emphasis on human being and their differences in western society. In this context, the study of female residents in western countries from feminist perspective achieves fast development, especially in the difference between male and female as well as within women. Female residents, as an important sub-group in the Chinese society, are facing the remarkable environmental changes and new challenges after The Open and Reform of China. Because of the disintegration of traditional DANWEI system and imperfectness of security system for women, Chinese female residents are more and mo re marginalized and impoverished which means that they have become a disadvantageous group out of the mainstream. Their daily activities and behavior spaces are limited because of the restrictions coming from both work and family. Research of gendered spaces of Chinese cities can be taken from the perspectives of behavior spaces of individual residents and feminist view. This research should focus not only on the characteristics of female residents in commuting, shopping and recreation and the comparative study between male and female in these issues, but also on the disadvantageous sub-groups within fem ale residents such as unemployed women, migration women and senior women as well as those distinct sub-groups such as white-collar women, single women and career women, all of which have faced distinct situations and different restrictions. Comparative research of fem ale residents' behavioral spaces between and within cities is necessary to address the effect to women's behavior spaces because of different city planning and city environments.

Some economic-technological developmental areas have gradually changed or are changing into a new form as new edge cities. However, lack of integrated economic structure and functions, these new edge cities face many problems. The deficient population is especially important to succeed in economic restructuring and comprehensive development of new edge cities and the whole metropolitan area. Based on the questionnaire survey on Tianjin residents, we conclude the basic characteristics of residential mobility and preference to TEDA (Tianjin economic-technological development area) as follows. First, the cognition and assessment largely affect the intent of metropolitan residents to move to the edge cities. Second, the usual purpose of residents to the new edge cities also affects the residents' desire to move.Third, the separation of residence and work and the consequent problems, such as transportation and commuting cost, are the biggest problems which prevent residents from moving from old metropolitan areas to the new edge cities. To improve the residential migration preference to new edge cities and promote the accessibility to them, we finally we put forward the following suggestions. First, new edge cities should improve the transportation systems and promote the accessibility to other parts of Metropolitan area. Second, They should promote their attraction as a residential community by improving their housing conditions and service facilities.Third, They should facilitate their economic restructuring process to provide more and diversified job opportunities to their potential residents. At last, new edge cities should also establish active policy to encourage the commuters who are now commuting from central city new edge cities to settle down in new edge cities.

It is a new phenomenon in the domain of tourism planning in China that more and more international consultants/consulting companies enter into the country to help make development plans to lo cal clients at every levels. Following those of Tibetan Autonomous Region and Sichuan Province, The Master Plan of Tourism Development for Shandong Province, China, prepared by the International Consulting Company Hoff and Overgaard of Denmark with World Tourism Organization (WTO) as executing agency, was completed at the end of 2000 and evaluated at the beginning of 2001. The outputs of this international project stimulated hot debates immediately after its opening to the public. Against this background, the authors attempt to illustrate w here the strength and weakness of this plan are, thereby helping domestic experts or planners to better understand such plans, and helping foreign consultants to provide better service for local customers. It was unique, the authors argue, in the framework and the concept of the planning, although there do have some shortcomings unavoidable in it. The text of the plan is comprised of fours parts, i.e., twenty-year, ten-year, five-year tourism plans and a supporting system for its implementation.Compared with domestic counterparts, it sets high priority to the five-year action plan, which makes it easier to be taking off the ground. With the goal of the plan to increase competitiveness of Shandong in international arena of tourism market, it emphasized strongly contemporary international standards and development concepts. For example, sustainable tourism development is the focus of the plan. Moreover, the experts of the plan dare to straightforwardly criticize unreasonable projects of the local planning counterparts, arguing that the lifestyles of the local residents were essentially tourism resources, and respected fully the interests/ benefits of the local people. On the other hand, the authors argue that it is open to debate on several parts of the master plan, such as positioning for products, spatial structure of tourist areas, and market predicting, since the western planners faced difficulties in understanding deeply the Chinese Culture, especially the Confucianist culture originated in the province and demand of Chinese domestic tourist market.

The western development is a good chance for provinces in the west of China, and they must put forward their own development strategies to take the chance and keep up with the rest of china. What development strategy Gansu takes is a significant problem involved in Gansu's healthy development on the background of promoting western China and worldly adjusting economic structure. This thesis mainly puts forcus on economic development strategy orientation in Gansu in view of regional economic spatial structure. In detail, that is to research on the mutual relationship and combined form of Gansu's main social and economic activities and main industries over regional space, which include planning regional economic development orientation, adjusting industrial allocation and choosing regional economic spatial exploitation mode. In German regional economic spatial structure began to be researched in 1930's-1940's.Since 1950's, this research has been gained further development in America, Swiss, Japan and German. Until 1980's, many Chinese scholars started to research regional economic spatial structure. Because regional economic spatial structure is an important embodiment of the regional economic development level, the industrial structure type, the aggregation and control power of productive factor, regional economic spatial structure that had a high value of research is an important economic structure in region. Regional economic spatial structure has been constantly changing and developing as industrial structure, they all have the trend of rationalization and higher level. Current regional economic spatial structure may be suitable at present. With regional economic development, some irrationalities of regional economic spatial structure surely will be exposed. Therefore it is necessary to earlier discover the problem of regional economic spatial structure, continuously develop and improve it by adjusting and rightly choosing stratagem. Firstly, this thesis tho roughly inspected Gansu's urban system, transportation system, economic aggregated district in view of the factor of regional economic spatial structure. Secondly, this thesis mainly analyzes problems and characteristics of Gansu's regional economic spatial structure, presents lo ts of the significant conclusions. At last, by combining theory of regional economic spatial structure and Gansu's situation, we presents development strategy of Gansu "big-cross" economic spatial structure, meanwhile analyzes the meaning of carrying out this development strategy.

Territorial planning plays an important role in leading the territorial renovation and regional exploration from 1980s. With the eco-social development, the planned economy is gradually substituted by socialist market economy, along with the enlarging gap between regions and the contradiction between the economic development and the environmental preservation. So, aiming at the current situation of economic globalization and information, China's Accession to the World Trade Organization, and the improvement of socialist market economic system, the paper puts forward the renew thoughts to promote the regional territorial planning in new period. Firstly, the paper thinks that it is important to penetrate into the study of basic theories. It is an actual way to carry out the cross-subject combined our territorial characteristics based on the theories and practice of territorial planning abroad, and provides that these are theoretic pillar, including:the theory of the territorial resources safety, the basic principle of the urban-rural networking development, dynamic planning. Secondly, the paper suggests that it's technical methods is important to combine theories with experts and practice because of its lo ng, complicated weaving period including:1.analyze the background and the status of territorial planning; 2.choose the acts of territorial planning; 3.suppose the territorial planning system. Finally, the author provides out that they are the essential steps to com pile and optimize territorial planning, including followings:work out regional land planning, utilize land planning, strengthen interrelated strategy connected with spatial planning, work out the territorial planning law. In addition, it is the most important to study the comprehensive strategy of the territorial planning in the future.

Based on investigating social materials, this paper analyzes the oasis environmental change and its reason of the Minqin in the Arid Region in Western China, which is lower reaches of Shiyang River in Hexi Corridor, ansu Province. The desertification and salinization in Minqin Basin show Minqin basin ecosystem has been in the brink of bankruptcy and its environment has gone worse. However, the precipitation has been generally steady since 1950, so human factor is a main reason of ecological environment change. Furthermore, it is discussed that it is human mechanism that causes the oasis change with human behavior of water use and quantity balance of water use. Minqin oasis change is related to expanding mechanism of traditional agriculture which can not be easily broken in limited time. We think all the oasis environmental changes of the lower reaches in the Arid Region in Western China have exposed the worse trend that is speeding in the recent and modern period. Minqin Basin has the process of the rapid decline of the underground water level, desertification, salinizification, degenerating vegetative cover that have greatly affected the agricultural production since 1950's.The human reason caused the environmental change is chiefly the unlimited demand of agricultural water use incited by enlarging farming land caused by rapid increasing population of the Shiyang reaches. The surface water decline flowing from the upper reaches and the increasing water use demand have explained the decline of underground water level and the worse quality of the underground water that caused the rapid salinizification and the rapid decline of the crop production which is one of the main facto rs of the enlarging farming land. All of these factor mentioned have contributed the degenerating vegetative cover and the disaster of the ecosystem. As a result, if the hum an mechanism causing the aggravating environment cannot be broken quickly, all human actions to reverse the worse trend of the oasis change in the same area will have little function.

Knowledge economy will play a leading role in the twenty-first century. The appearance of new economy will be certain to bring a far-reaching influence to the industrial activities of humanity. As the carrier of economic activities, a deep transform will be bound to take place in economic region under this influence. And finally this transform will make the landscape formation of economic region to take a overall change. On the one hand, it will show that the spatial structure of economic region (namely its cores, peripheries, networks and their combination) will thoroughly change; On the other hand, the change of the spatial structure of economic region will make the exterior formation of economic region take on a new appearance in the world. Based on understanding the fundamental connotation of landscape formation of economic region, and in a relatively systematic way, the paper sets forth the new changes of the essential factors of landscape of economic region which knowledge economy brings about. And then, the author makes a qualitative and quantitative prospect for the landscape formation of economic region in the knowledge economy ear. There are four parts in this paper. In the first part, the author introduces the fundamental connotation of landscape formation of economic region. The second part:In a relatively systematic way, the author sets forth the new changes of the essential factors of landscape of economic region. This part includes three aspects:First, the cores of economic region will become knowledgeable places, and their arrangement will become scattered, and their scale will become small; Next, the peripheral spaces of economic region will become boundless and multi-subordinate; And then, networks will become invisible. In the third part, the paper expounds the new changes of spatial structure of economic region from two respects:First, the spatial structure of economic region will exist but drift away from the real region, and will become changeable; Secondly, the dualistic structure of economic region will aviaries. In the last part, the author makes a qualitative and quantitative prospect for the exterior formation of economic region in the knowledge economy era.

The Dongting lake area wetland is one of the largest fresh water wetland ecological systems in China. It has a very long history of agricultural exploitation, a relatively high agricultural production level and an important base of agricultural commodity in our country.Due to influence of traditioinal cultivation pattern in the past, the level of the agricultural integration is very low so as to affect the Dongting lake area economic development. Based on the landscape characteristics of the Dongting lake area wetland, the article is divided into three parts:there are lake and streamlet area and plain area and the low hills area around lake in Dongting lake wetland area. The Dongting lake area wetland agricultural resources and the present state of the wetland agricultural resources ex ploitation are evaluated and analyzed, and there are a lot of biological resources and the ex tensive water area resources and the multiple land resource. There are the relatively developed agricultural economy and the superior location. The problems of the wetland agricultural resources exploitation and utilization are pointed out that the wetland agricultural resources are not rational exploitation and utilization, the agricultural products are a low science and technology content and the marketplace information of the agricultural products is ineffective so that there is the low commerce development level of the agricultural products in Dong ting lake area. The agricultural integration is the only way out in order to increase the rate of the agriculture commodity in Dongting lake area. The development models of the wetland agricultural integration are put forward to that these are the agricultural integration models of the chief-enterprise impetus and the agricultural model of the intermediary com bination promoted and the agricultural model of the marketplace carried forward and the agricultural model of the science and technology propelled, achieving the purpose of the fast development of the agricultural economy in Dong ting lake area wetland and realizing the objective of the Dongting lake area agricultural modernization, benefiting the Dongting lake wetland agricultural resources sustainable development.

This paper has summarized the spatial model with four layers starting with the concept of structure of urban agglomeration. The authors have put forward clue about structure division and calculated degree of homogeneity in Wuxi city, analyzed its features of nub, uniformity, network and functionality,. This paper expresses the basic idea that driving force of urban agglomeration evolution is the interaction between human activity and industries (including primary industry, secondary industry and tertiary industry)as well as spatial reg ions. Evolution of urban agglomeration structure can be divided into four phases:aggregation phase (cities), aggregation and diffusion phase (urban area), diffusion and aggregation phase (urban group)and diffusion phase (urban agglomeration), which correspond respectively to the first, second, third and fourth layer.Evolution of urban agglomeration structure follow the laws of city grow th and regional economic development, and industry evolve by the order of primary industry, secondary industry, tertiary industry; secondary industry, primary industry, tertiary industry;tertiary industry, secondary industry, primary industry; land type transfer from agricultural land to non-agricultural land; quantity of layer increase gradually; function structure change from overall comprehension, overall differentiation, partial differentiation, partial comprehension to overall comprehension. Configuration of urban agglomeration consists of three basic facto rs, which are ex tending axis, node and nub area, as well as contour line. Grow th configuration includes correspondingly ball shape, belt shape and star shape. Aggregation and diffusion formed by seasonal evolution of economic development in space. Improvement of living condition, ecological trend of economy and society become main cause about expansion of urban agglomeration and change of configuration. They have a close correlation between development axis and urban configuration, between structure of urban agglomeration and configuration type. Adjusting for the structure of urban agglomeration and intensifying for city function will bring about scale change and redistribution in urban space, configuration subrogation of urban agglomeration, which make configuration of urban agglomeration in different levels in constant development and cycle. Spatial structure and functional structure will change when configuration type of urban agglomeration have a change. As a result, a theoretical recapitulation for dynamical, stages and features on the structure of urban agglomeration has been made.

This paper starts with reviewing Traditional Location theory and particularly analyzes the changes of location factors under the new background of economic globalization and science & information revolution. Then it puts forward global location factors and explains them one by one.The authors think that there are seven main factors in global location theory, including ①transportation, communication and other infrastructure, ②science and technology, information and qualified personnel, ③economic system and the degree of marketability, ④social environment, ⑤environment, ⑥ centralization and decentralization, ⑦geographical situation. On top of the introduction, the paper illuminates briefly the connection within the seven factors, and regards them as an entity with interaction and conditionality. Later the paper makes a probe into the effect that global location does on urban development. The meaning of global location is to press us to set up a series of relative criterions, look for the comparative predominance of urban development and make full use of it, so as to promote urban to find best and feasible way to boost its comprehensively competitive ability. The primary criterions include the following aspects.①Urban status depends on the energy of its trade, finance, information and technology.②Urban area should aim to advance its status in the global network of cities.③The key to urban development is to occupy the advantageous node of world urban network.④The approaches to realize the aim are to improve its system environment, environment, hum an environment and to establish predominant industry and so on. Based on this, the paper considers that the process of urban development is the one that a city keeps on looking for synthetically location predominance in the global network of cities, so as to increase its integrative competitive ability. Besides, the authors think that the location selection of MNC confirms what the global location does on urban development. Furthermore, the paper makes a case study of Nantong city of Jiangsu province.

Functions of the urban agglomerations mostly show some effect of urban agglomerations on the regional development and also embody their radiant energy and formative power. Function features that are synthetically described can help us better master the developmental states of urban agglomerations as a whole. This paper, based on the statistics of total urban population and urban employees as well as its industrial structure of the urban statistical yearbook of China, is to discuss the function features between Yangtze River Delta and Pearl River Delta.Under the background of whole cities of China, it starts with the urban basic economic activities as the confirming basis of the urban function followed by Morre Regression Analysis Theorem and then takes advantage of methods of factor-analysis. The authors summarize their function features as follows:Administrative and educational-cultural-welfare function are main one of the former and its prominent functions include scientific-technology and socialservice, transportation and commercial finance. The main functions of the latter are manufacturing, and then transportation, commerce and educational-cultural-welfare are its prominent functions. On the detailed comparisons of two urban agglomerations, they actually have some similar and divergent function features. The former apparently lie on:①The functions of them are both variety;② social-service function is really important within the second main factors;③Transportation and commerce functions play significant roles among the ones;④Mining, architecture and real estate aren't prominent. The latter mostly include:①The manufacturing function that belongs to urban agglomerations of Pearl River Delta is more prominent than the other one.②Administrative function of Yangtze River Delta is mo re characteristic than the other one;③Moreover, The scientific-technology-service functions as well. Finally, the authors pay attention to the development trend of their functions. The macro-development environments of China has really changed follow ed by the economic globalizations and entry to the WTO. The two urban agglomerations should find their developmental position and improve their function with integrating and developing super industries, strengthening cooperation and then involve the global cities.

With the fast development of the society and economy, and continual population centralization to the cities, the cities' original ecological balance is changed and destroyed greatly. That debases the quality of human living environment, and challenges the sustainable development of the cities. In order to maintain the district ecological security, strengthen the construction of urban environment, promote the health level of urban dwellers, enhance the sustaining ability of the ecological resource to the city development, realize the balance of the city and the nature in a better level, the function of urban ecological functional district planning has been paid more and more attention in many cities. Beginning with the meaning of urban ecological functional district planning, this paper introduces the methods and the applied theory, and brings forward the viewpoints from some aspects as follows:(1) properly understanding urban ecological system, (2)building the possible ecological resource information bank, (3)seeking the sustainable idealization model of urban ecological system, (4)scientifically making urban ecological functional district planning, (5)making the building guide of the urban ecological functional distrcts, etc. The last conclusions include:urban ecological system is a society-economy-nature multiple ecological system dominated by the behavior of hum an, supported by the natural environment, controlled by the flowing of resource, netted by the social system. Building the ecological resource information bank and single ecological factor drawing layer bank is the base of making ecological district planning objectively and scientifically. The factors include local market, spatial distance, traffic condition and free competition among different firms. The research result shows that the spatial distance and traffic condition are the most important factors. Thirdly, This paper pays more attention to the features of spatial layout for large scale supermarket in shanghai.①Large scale supermarkets lean towards locating near the residential area.②Large scale supermarkets which are located between the downtown and the suburb are more prosperous than others.③Large scale supermarkets tend to be located on the nodes of traffic. Based on the analysis, this paper gives some suggestions on the spatial layout of large scale supermarkets in Shanghai as bellow s:①Large scale supermarket should analyze the income condition of different kinds of resident and try to find the way to compete with many small multiple store which had been developed in the residential zone as the complement of large supermarket and make residents daily life more convenient.②Large scale supermarket should pay more and more attention to the countryside areas where people get richer and richer, need much more consumption in goods and culture.③ Large scale supermarket should strengthen the market investigation and promote mo re success in their new branch's establishment.④Large scale supermarket should establish the e-business net actively on their own initiative as the rapid development of internet technology, sales by means of internet get more and more important.

This article discusses complementarity and non-prevalence relation in geographical substance, and their intention, as well as significance in man-land relationship. Complementarity is to oppose each other and yet also depend on each other. Non-prevalence relation is unlimited to each other. The author gives out geographical concept as non-prevalance relation, analyses relationships between complementarity and non-prevalence relation, on the basis of discussing about theories of substance (gravitation theory, quantum theory, and system theory). Geographical significance of Gravitation theory is a building of definite relationships on geographical variable and space. Geographical significance of quantum theory is a study of function of research worker's space-time background to constitute the geographical substance, and to use the complementarity to express relationships of substance. Geographical significance of system theory is a study of both the decline of space-time difference and the growth of the generality as a whole.Three theories contain the function with prevalence."Study" in system theory is the process that conscientiously strengthen prevalence. In view of geographical substance situation, we raise the concept that is non-prevalance relation.Complementarety and nonprevalance relation in geographical facts be analysed in geographical environments and man-land relationship, both are unified. The complementarity emerges observer's preponderance, and the nonprevalence relation emerges that both prevalence and non-one have influence, because it's certain and the uncertain nature. The non-prevalence relation of geog raphical affair causes ultimately the defeat of the determinism.
