THE IMPACT OF HIGH-SPEED RAIL ON REGIONAL ACCESSIBILITY AND REGIONAL SPATIAL INTERACTIONS: A CASE STUDY OF CHENGDUCHONGQING URBAN AGGLOMERATION

Abstract:Based on the network analysis tools in standard ArcGIS software, four indicators, including weighted average travel time(WATT), daily accessibility index(DA), potential accessibility index(PA) and accessibility coefficient, are used to evaluate the impact of high-speed rail on regional accessibility of ChengduChongqing urban agglomeration. Meanwhile, the impact of high-speed rail on the regional spatial interactions is analyzed based on the gravity model. The results show:1)The construction of high-speed railway greatly improves overall level of regional accessibility, showing significant "corridor effect". 2)The spatial difference in the layout of transportation infrastructure is remarkable, and the high-speed rail has significantly improved the accessibility of some cities while the gap of position advantage has been widened. 3)The construction of high-speed rail has strengthened the core status of Chongqing and Chengdu, while Chengdu has a greater potential for development. The framework of transportation corridor in Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomerationhas developed under the construction of high-speed rail, while the one-hour traffic circle have not effectively connected between Chengdu and Chongqing. The central region of Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration is still in a "collapse" situation for missing of second tier city in this area.
